Executive Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional kitchen experience, including substantial leadership in production, catering, or high-volume settings
- Proven track record managing kitchen teams and delivering results under pressure
- Experience overseeing multiple kitchen departments or stations
- Strong understanding of food safety, allergen management, and sanitation standards
- ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word) and ability to learn operating systems
- Experience in recipe writing, scaling, and maintaining production documentation
Executive Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills
- Advanced culinary techniques in both hot and cold food, with a particular strength in catering production
- Ability to motivate, coach, and hold team members accountable while fostering a positive culture
- Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills in high-volume environments
- Clear, direct communication style with a knack for cross-functional collaboration
Executive Sous Chef Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and inspire a diverse kitchen team, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards
- Oversee and optimize daily production, ensuring all departments are organized and on schedule for events
- Maintain strong floor presence, troubleshooting issues and ensuring seamless operations
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, allergen, and sanitation protocols throughout the kitchen
- Enforce standardized recipes and production systems for consistent, high-quality results
- Support on-site culinary leadership for events, especially during peak season, ensuring a smooth transition from production to execution
