Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
5–10+ years of environmental, health, and safety experience in chemical manufacturing or heavy industry.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), including OSHA PSM standard (29 CFR 1910.119).
Expertise in developing and maintaining safety, environmental, and industrial hygiene programs.
Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and incident investigation processes.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Preferred Background & Skills

Advanced knowledge of PHA methodologies (HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, Checklist).
Experience with Management of Change (MOC) systems and Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs.
Strong technical background in root cause analysis (RCA, TapRooT, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
Ability to analyze, track, and improve safety and environmental performance metrics.
Effective communication and team leadership skills.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Maintain permits, documentation, and lead regulatory reporting for chemical handling, emissions, and waste.
Oversee the development and implementation of sitewide safety, environmental, and emergency preparedness programs.
Lead risk assessments, hazard analyses, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Supervise and mentor EHS staff, providing guidance to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Monitor compliance with SPCC and SWPPP programs, and implement pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives.
Coordinate medical surveillance, occupational health, and industrial hygiene programs.
Develop and deliver EH&S training programs and lead safety committees and emergency drills.
