Requirements & Qualifications
- Active Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of current nursing experience in pediatrics, school health, or an emergency department
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred
- Strong pediatric/young adult assessment skills
- Knowledge of developmental milestones
- Strong organization and multitasking abilities
- Comfortable utilizing electronic health records and other computer systems
Must Haves
- Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency response
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with specialized health needs
- Administer medications and maintain documentation in accordance with Connecticut school health requirements
- Coordinate required student health screenings, immunization compliance, and cumulative health records
- Participate in school teams as the clinical resource for student health needs
- Identify and respond to communicable disease concerns within the school environment
- Provide health education and guidance to students, parents, teachers, and school personnel
- Delegate and supervise appropriate responsibilities to school health office support staff when applicable
Preferred Background & Skills
- Previous school nursing experience
- Pediatric nursing background
- Emergency department experience involving pediatric patients
- Experience with SNAP Health Center or similar school health documentation systems
- Experience developing individualized healthcare plans
- Knowledge of Connecticut school health regulations
- Experience working with students who have complex or special healthcare needs
- Strong communication skills with children, parents, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
