VDC MANAGER

Electrical Construction | Richmond, VA

Overview

A leading electrical contractor, is looking for a VDC Manager to lead its Virtual Design and Construction team. The VDC Manager makes sure the VDC process runs efficiently and stays on track. Rather than giving direct instruction, this leader mentors and guides the team, providing direction and support as they work through department processes and hit project milestones. The role also shapes VDC strategy, drives innovation, and manages VDC budgets, schedules, and staffing across current and future projects.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Mentorship

•Lead, mentor, and guide the VDC team, holding direct reports accountable for production.

•Assign incoming opportunities to the right VDC coordinator.

•Make sure the team consistently uses the department’s efficiency tools and workflows.

•Lead in a way that supports the company’s culture, mission, and values, and serve as a resource to other department heads.

Strategy & Innovation

•Help develop the VDC strategic plan in coordination with group leadership.

•Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing across all areas of VDC (modeling, coordination, prefabrication, and more).

•Drive innovation within the VDC department and build an innovation mindset across the wider organization.

•Support, contribute to, and champion new ideas and process improvements.

•Share knowledge and lessons learned across the organization.

Project Planning, Budgets & Scheduling

•Develop VDC budget estimates for projects, and review and track them throughout the project.

•Analyze and rebuild project schedules as needed.

•Maintain manpower-loaded schedules for current and upcoming projects.

•Create cost code breakdowns for VDC work.

•Identify and reduce VDC risks based on experience.

Relationships & Business Development

•Build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients (project managers, field leadership, and preconstruction) to keep VDC processes efficient.

•Gather information for and contribute to marketing materials for prospective projects.

•Dynamo scripts

•Navisworks Manage

•AutoCAD

•Autodesk Construction Cloud

•Bluebeam

•Microsoft Office

•Project tracking tools (schedules and dashboards)

Required Qualifications

•10+ years of experience with Revit

•5+ years of experience as a Project Coordinator

•Electrical construction experience

•High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience managing a VDC department

•Associate degree in Computer Drafting or Construction Management

•Field experience in the construction trades
