Field Service Technician – Industrial Electrical & Automation
Dayton, OH | $88,000–$95,000 | Company Vehicle | Limited Travel
Are you an industrial electrical or maintenance technician who enjoys troubleshooting equipment but doesn't want to spend your entire life on the road?
We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join a growing industrial equipment and automation company in the Dayton area.
This is a hands-on troubleshooting position working with industrial machinery, electrical systems and controls. You'll work both locally and at customer facilities, diagnosing problems, supporting equipment installations and startups, and helping customers keep their equipment running.
Travel averages approximately 5–8 days per month — not the constant travel typically associated with field service roles.
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical and mechanical equipment
- Read and work from electrical schematics and equipment drawings
- Diagnose electrical issues involving motors, relays, sensors, controls and 240/480V systems
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and control systems
- Assist with equipment installation, startup and commissioning
- Perform wiring, electrical modifications and equipment upgrades as needed
- Communicate directly with customers and provide professional on-site service
- Document service work and recommended repairs
- Work independently while having support from the engineering and technical team
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on industrial electrical troubleshooting experience
- Ability to read electrical schematics
- Experience working with industrial machinery and electrical controls
- Comfortable troubleshooting 240/480V equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to diagnose problems independently in the field
- Professional communication skills when working with customers
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel approximately 5–8 days per month
Experience with PLCs, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, VFDs, panel wiring, pneumatics, hydraulics or industrial automation equipment is a plus.
You do not need to be an engineer or PLC programmer. We are looking for a strong hands-on technician who knows how to troubleshoot equipment and wants to continue developing their technical skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- $80,000–$90,000
- Company vehicle
- $70/day travel per diem
- Company-paid lodging and travel expenses
- Health insurance
- 401(k)
- Paid time off
- 7 paid holidays
- Company-provided tools and PPE
- Laptop and phone support
- Additional bonus/commission opportunities
