Director of Human Resources
Location: Atlanta Metro Area, GA
Work Arrangement: Fully On-Site
Compensation: $140,000–$160,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
The Opportunity
A growing industrial/electrical company is seeking a hands-on Director of Human Resources to build and lead its HR function from the ground up. This is a highly visible, foundational role for an experienced HR leader who is equally comfortable setting strategy and personally executing the work.
The Director of HR will establish practical, scalable HR infrastructure across employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, onboarding, policies, and workforce support. The right person will bring sound judgment, a service-oriented approach, and the ability to partner closely with ownership and operational leaders in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and implement foundational HR policies, practices, procedures, and an employee handbook.
- Serve as the primary HR resource for employees, managers, and company leadership.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain required employment records.
- Lead employee-relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, performance concerns, corrective action, and terminations.
- Establish and improve onboarding, offboarding, orientation, and employee lifecycle processes.
- Oversee payroll administration and coordinate closely with finance and external partners as needed.
- Administer employee benefits, including enrollment, employee communications, and vendor relationships.
- Support the implementation and ongoing use of HRHQ for onboarding, employee data, and HR administration.
- Develop and deliver manager and employee training, including harassment prevention, workplace conduct, and policy-related training.
- Partner with leaders on organizational structure, workforce planning, hiring needs, retention, performance management, and employee engagement.
- Create clear reporting, documentation, and HR metrics to help leadership make informed people decisions.
- Identify HR risks and opportunities, then recommend practical solutions that fit the company’s size, culture, and growth plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree or HR certification is a plus.
- 5+ years of progressive human resources experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
- Demonstrated success building or significantly improving an HR function, processes, or infrastructure in a growing organization.
- Experience supporting a construction, electrical, industrial, manufacturing, field-services, or similarly operational environment strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, employee relations, payroll, and benefits administration.
- Experience managing sensitive workplace matters with sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
- Comfortable operating as a hands-on, “one-stop-shop” HR leader rather than working in a narrowly defined specialty role.
- Experience implementing or working with HRIS platforms; HRHQ experience is helpful but not required.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work fully on-site in the Atlanta Metro area.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first year, the Director of HR will have built a trusted and reliable HR foundation—clear policies, a strong employee handbook, consistent onboarding and payroll processes, compliant HR practices, and an effective system for supporting employees and leaders as the company grows.
