Executive Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of culinary management experience in a high-volume, full-service hotel
  • Experience overseeing both restaurant and banquet culinary operations
  • Previous experience supervising culinary managers and large kitchen teams
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Strong financial acumen including food cost, labor management, payroll, and budgeting
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing, inventory, receiving, and cost controls
  • ServSafe Food Manager Certification required
  • Culinary degree preferred
  • Union experience preferred
  • Strong computer proficiency and administrative skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events

Executive Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills

  • Luxury hotel or Four/Five Diamond culinary experience
  • Multi-outlet culinary leadership
  • High-volume banquet production
  • Fine dining restaurant experience
  • Menu development and seasonal programming
  • Strong P&L and financial management experience
  • Experience managing payroll, scheduling, and labor controls
  • Collaborative leadership style with excellent communication skills
  • Stable career progression with strong tenure

This is a highly visible culinary leadership role partnering directly with the Executive Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, develop culinary talent, and ensure exceptional execution across multiple restaurants, banquet venues, and hotel events. The ideal candidate combines operational excellence, financial discipline, and a passion for mentoring others while maintaining the highest luxury hospitality standards.
