Restaurant General Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in a general management role within hospitality
  • P&L management including forecasting and budgeting
  • Experience in high-volume, fast-casual environments
  • Proficiency with Excel, POS systems, and general computer skills
  • Strong communication, team management, and customer service orientation
  • Ability to work a 50-hour work week including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • High school diploma required; hospitality certification a plus
  • Flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn

Restaurant General Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience with restaurant management software such as Aloha or Toast
  • Leadership style that is hands-on and hospitality-driven

Restaurant General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop front-of-house and back-of-house teams
  • Foster and promote a hospitality-focused culture
  • Oversee daily restaurant operations to drive outstanding guest experiences
  • Coordinate communication and supervise staff during service
  • Manage scheduling, training, and onboarding for new team members
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, and compliance with regulations
  • Prepare shift schedules and facilitate pre-shift meetings
  • Monitor operational costs and implement strategies to improve employee retention
