The Pastry Sous Chef is a passionate leader and role model who is engaged, self-motivated, and able to excel under pressure in a constantly evolving environment. A talented Culinarian with the unquenchable desire to practice one’s craft in the art of multi-dimensional cooking and works with a high level of integrity, communicating and demonstrating efficiency within our culture and Michelin Starred kitchen in rural Virginia.

Pastry Sous Chef Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily management of the pastry staff, ensuring quality control measures.
  • Communicate and develop positive relationships with the executive pastry chef, savory sous chefs, and the executive chef.
  • Strong kitchen and leadership skills with a proven ability to coach and develop a team.
  • Address and resolve internal conflict, and nurture a no-blame culture, cultivating mutual respect.
  • Encourage employees to develop operational innovations.
  • Supervising team to ensure compliance with occupational, health, and safety standards.
  • Develop workable solutions to solve routine department and guest-related problems.
  • Apply good judgment, able to bend a rule for a guest to create an excellent experience.
  • Accept the need for flexibility and respond to evolving circumstances.
  • Handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a deadline-driven, demanding environment.

Qualifications for Pastry Sous Chef

  • Proven experience working as a pastry chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment, preferably from Michelin Star-level execution.
  • Expert skill set in international cuisine and technique
  • Ability to precisely follow recipes and instructions.
  • Very good knowledge of pastry arts and ingredients.
  • Good sense of planning and preparation.
  • Diligent and meticulous in placing and receiving orders.
  • Ability to problem-solve and react quickly to any issues that arise during a shift.
