Service Manager Requirements
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a repair shop, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and assist technicians when needed
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing technicians and support staff
- Excellent customer communication skills, especially over the phone
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines and customer expectations
- Experience managing or coordinating parts inventory is highly preferred
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with shop management systems and basic computer applications
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and ethical leadership
Service Manager Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of service technicians and parts personnel to achieve operational excellence
- Coordinate repairs, rebuilds, and refurbishments of forklifts, aerial lifts, heavy equipment, railcar movers, and other industrial machinery
- Manage workflow to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
- Monitor Work in Process (WIP) and proactively resolve bottlenecks
- Ensure parts availability by coordinating inventory and ordering requirements
- Communicate weekly repair updates with customers and maintain exceptional customer relationships
- Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability
- Coach technicians, assist with troubleshooting, and remove obstacles that impact productivity
- Track key performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
- Partner with leadership to drive operational improvements and deliver an outstanding customer experience
