About the Opportunity
Our client is a rapidly growing international manufacturing company investing heavily in U.S. operations. They are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead all EHS programs, regulatory compliance initiatives, and safety culture development at a large-scale chemical manufacturing facility.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and enjoys building world-class safety and environmental programs.
EHS Manager Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and related standards.
- Maintain and improve site management systems, including ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certifications.
- Lead internal and external audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.
Safety Leadership
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs, including:
- Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hazard Communication
- Electrical Safety
- Contractor Safety
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
- Drive employee engagement and continuous improvement through safety committees and initiatives.
Environmental Compliance
- Oversee environmental programs including:
- Air permitting
- Wastewater management
- Hazardous waste compliance
- Stormwater management
- Ensure accurate reporting and communication with regulatory agencies.
- Identify sustainability and environmental improvement opportunities.
Training & Culture
- Deliver EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, communication, and leadership presence on the production floor.
Emergency Response
- Maintain site emergency response plans and procedures.
- Coordinate drills and lead emergency preparedness activities.
Metrics & Reporting
- Monitor key EHS performance indicators.
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to site leadership and corporate stakeholders.
EHS Manager Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience within:
- Chemical manufacturing
- Specialty chemicals
- Pharmaceuticals
- Other high-hazard manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of U.S. regulatory requirements, including:
- OSHA
- EPA
- PSM
- RMP
- RCRA
- Proven experience interacting directly with regulatory agencies and managing compliance programs.
Preferred
- CSP, CIH, or other relevant professional certifications.
- Experience supporting ISO-certified manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated success driving safety culture transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
