Senior Construction Project Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or a minimum of 5 years’ related experience with applicable certifications and training
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • 15+ years of experience in utility, transportation, real estate development, water/wastewater, mining, or other civil construction projects
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience, including managing construction phase projects
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check
  • Proven expertise in construction administration or management
  • Deep knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant regulations
  • Strong understanding of construction business practices, permitting, zoning, and environmental requirements
  • CPM scheduling experience

Senior Construction Project Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • LEED accreditation or comprehensive training in sustainable design and construction
  • Experience in engineering and construction management consulting
  • Background in construction contracting

Senior Construction Project Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between design teams and construction partners—including owners, contractors, and engineers
  • Oversee and direct complex construction projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Manage budgeting, scheduling, and cost estimation for civil projects, providing regular internal and external reporting
  • Conduct on-site observation and inspection, addressing quality control and ensuring project requirements are met
  • Lead, mentor, and review the work of project staff to drive accountability and professional growth
  • Interface directly with client representatives to resolve field issues, administer contracts, and ensure project objectives are achieved
  • Evaluate and negotiate change orders, contracts, and permits, and support clients in securing all approvals
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while maintaining a strict focus on constructability and value engineering
