Category Manager Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Assortment Development: Develop and execute merchandising strategies to curate a premium product assortment, manage seasonal variations, and introduce new products that drive sales growth and margin productivity.
  • Vendor & Pricing Management: Manage and negotiate with distributor partners and specialty vendors to establish competitive retail pricing, secure favorable cost structures, and optimize promotional funding.
  • Operations & Data Analysis: Analyze sales, margin, and inventory performance data to forecast demand, coordinate with warehouses to minimize out-of-stocks/spoilage, and provide strategic reporting to senior leadership.

Category Manager Requirements:

  • Experience & Education: Requires 4+ years of CPG category management, buying, or merchandising experience within grocery, specialty food, or gourmet retail; a Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, or a food-related field is preferred.
  • Key Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, financial planning, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, alongside a deep passion for premium retail and emerging specialty food brands.
  • Supply Chain Familiarity: Preferred experience working with major distributors (such as UNFI and KeHE) and managing direct-store-delivery (DSD) vendors like Rainforest Distribution.
