Sous Chef Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality plates with strong attention to both presentation and flavor
  • Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and meets quality standards during all services
  • Step in for the Executive Chef to plan and direct food preparation when needed
  • Handle challenges in real time—problem-solve quickly and take control of situations
  • Lead, train, and inspire kitchen staff; create schedules and evaluate performance
  • Manage inventory and order supplies to keep operations fully stocked
  • Enforce sanitation, safety, and food handling standards
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude with both team members and guests

Sous Chef Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience as a Sous Chef in a high-volume kitchen in full-service restaurant environments
  • Strong knowledge of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Proven ability to manage both kitchen operations and team performance
  • Calm, quick-thinking approach to high-pressure and emergencies
  • Up-to-date with industry best practices and trends
  • Comfortable using MS Office, POS systems, and restaurant management software
  • Culinary degree or certification is a plus
  • ServSafe certification
