Restaurant Assistant General Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of restaurant management experience in high-volume or upscale environments
  • Strong understanding of restaurant financials, including labor and cost controls
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate diverse teams
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Food safety certification required (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility for demanding schedules
  • Capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25–40 lbs

Restaurant Assistant General Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience supporting onboarding and training programs
  • Familiarity with using scheduling, reporting, and operational systems
  • Comfort stepping into General Manager responsibilities when needed

Restaurant Assistant General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Partner with the General Manager to oversee daily restaurant operations and uphold brand standards
  • Lead, train, and inspire a dynamic team, fostering a positive and guest-focused culture
  • Deliver exceptional guest experiences and address concerns in real time
  • Monitor and enhance food quality, cleanliness, and overall restaurant environment
  • Support financial performance by managing labor, food costs, and business plan execution
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, labor laws, and internal policies
  • Assist with menu launches, system rollouts, and operational initiatives
