Director – Roadway/Highway Design Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required.
- Minimum 15 years of professional consulting and/or transportation design experience, including at least 5 years of project management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
- Demonstrated technical experience with transportation projects and client delivery.
- Experience preparing roadway design plans in relevant jurisdictions.
- Thorough understanding of municipal and DOT codes and regulations.
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
Director – Roadway/Highway Design Preferred Background & Skills
- Strong marketing and business development mindset.
- Experience supervising and developing teams of engineers or project managers.
- Aptitude for fostering client relationships and participating in professional societies.
- Data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Basic understanding of financial reports and project metrics.
Director – Roadway/Highway Design Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to transportation engineering and project management teams.
- Oversee department strategy, budgeting, staffing, and project deliverables.
- Develop new business opportunities for roadway design and cross-sell services.
- Supervise project managers, set goals, and implement performance management.
- Manage projects from proposal through construction services, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, business partners, and industry organizations.
- Guide the administrative and operational excellence of the business unit.
