Seafood Buyer Benefits & Compensation

Seafood Buyer Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field preferred
  • 1–5 years of experience in purchasing, inventory, merchandising, or supply chain (food industry experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills

Seafood Buyer Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience with seafood buying or fresh food procurement
  • Familiarity with HACCP food safety standards and quality specifications
  • Background in vendor evaluation and negotiation
  • Understanding of market trends and supply chain dynamics

Seafood Buyer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Place purchase orders based on sales forecasts and current inventory
  • Monitor inventory reports to prevent out-of-stocks and overstock
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing and contracts
  • Ensure all products meet food safety requirements and quality standards
  • Analyze sales, pricing, and vendor performance for category optimization
  • Collaborate with warehouse, logistics, and sales teams to resolve product flow or quality concerns
  • Support promotional planning and the onboarding of new suppliers
