Job Description: General Manager

Upper Casual | Independently Owned Restaurant

Position Overview

We are an independently owned upscale casual restaurant seeking a passionate, hospitality-driven General Manager to lead our team and represent our brand in the community. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on the floor, builds genuine guest relationships, and understands that memorable dining experiences drive long-term success.

The General Manager will serve as the face of the restaurant — highly visible during service, actively engaging guests through table visits, and setting the tone for excellence. Equally important, this leader must bring strong financial acumen, disciplined cost control, and operational knowledge to ensure sustainable profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Brand Leadership

  • Be the visible, welcoming presence in the dining room during service.
  • Conduct regular, meaningful table visits to build relationships and ensure exceptional guest satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary ambassador of our restaurant’s culture and standards.
  • Address and resolve guest concerns with professionalism and urgency.
  • Maintain elevated service standards consistent with upscale casual dining.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all daily front-of-house and assist with back-of-house operations.
  • Lead pre-shift meetings and ensure seamless service execution.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and ambiance.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Partner with the culinary team to ensure alignment between the kitchen and dining room.

Financial Management & Cost Control

  • Manage P&L performance with strong attention to controllable costs.
  • Monitor and control food, beverage, and labor costs to meet financial targets.
  • Oversee inventory management, purchasing, and waste reduction.
  • Analyze financial statements and implement strategies to improve margins.
  • Drive revenue growth through strategic planning, guest retention, and operational efficiencies.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing hospitality team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and mutual respect.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Create labor schedules aligned with service standards and cost goals.
  • Lead by example with a calm, solutions-oriented approach.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of progressive restaurant leadership experience, including General Manager experience in upper casual or fine dining.
  • Strong background in cost control, budgeting, and P&L management.
  • Demonstrated success building guest loyalty through active floor presence and table touches.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and retain strong teams.
  • Deep understanding of hospitality, service standards, and dining room flow.
  • Hands-on, floor-driven leadership style.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Naturally guest-focused and relationship-driven
  • Financially disciplined and detail-oriented
  • Confident decision-maker
  • Professional, polished, and highly visible
  • Committed to independent restaurant culture and long-term growth

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonus structure
  • Benefits package (details provided during interview process)
  • Opportunity to grow with a respected independent concept
