Project Manager – Major Infrastructure Construction

A well-established construction organization is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its team and lead major New York infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to manage highly complex NYC DEP projects valued up to $150M, with significant responsibility for project execution, owner relationships, commercial management, scheduling, and team leadership.

The position will primarily operate from the company's Long Island office, with periodic travel to active project sites in Upstate New York.

Project Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction/project management experience, including significant experience managing complex public infrastructure projects
  • NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) project experience is an absolute requirement
  • Proven experience managing major infrastructure projects, ideally in the $50M–$150M+ range
  • Engineering degree strongly preferred; PE license is a plus but not required
  • Strong experience with project controls, schedule analysis, change-order management, contract administration, owner relations, and project financial performance

Project Manager Must Haves

  • Lead major NYC DEP projects from planning and mobilization through construction, commissioning, turnover, and closeout
  • Perform detailed schedule analysis, identify project impacts and delays, and develop strategies to maintain or recover critical project milestones
  • Lead change-order development and negotiation, contract administration, project correspondence, claims support, and formal written communications with the owner
  • Serve as a senior point of contact with the owner, NYC DEP, engineers, joint-venture partners, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Lead and manage a project team of project engineers, superintendents, and support staff, providing direction, accountability, and oversight throughout project execution

Project Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Career experience with contractors performing NYC DEP water/wastewater, treatment facility, pumping, mechanical, process piping, or major municipal infrastructure work
  • Experience successfully managing $50M+ public infrastructure projects, with exposure to projects exceeding $100M highly desirable
  • Strong commercial instincts with demonstrated success negotiating change orders and resolving complicated owner, schedule, contractual, and project issues
  • Executive-level communication skills with the ability to write formal owner correspondence and confidently represent the contractor in high-level project meetings
  • Ability and willingness to work primarily from Long Island while periodically traveling to project sites in the Cornwall/upstate New York area, including occasional multi-day stays during critical phases of construction
