Electrical Project Manager – Commercial, Mission Critical, Industrial Construction

Location: DFW, Texas

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Manager to lead electrical and low-voltage construction projects from start to finish. You will help shape each project early on, then oversee its planning, scheduling, budgeting and delivery. You will have full financial responsibility for your projects, so a solid understanding of construction accounting and cost control is essential. You will support field teams, work with subcontractors and fix problems in the field as they come up.

Key Responsibilities

Project Turnover & Planning

  • Lead each project from kickoff through closeout.
  • Take over contract and bid documents from estimating, review the scope, and attend pre-construction walk-throughs.
  • Build project schedules showing milestones, delivery dates and subcontractor requirements, and fit them into the overall project and manpower plans.
  • Know and follow the contract's notice requirements.

Financial Management

  • Own the project's finances, including budgets, cost tracking, forecasts and progress reports.
  • Set up the schedule of values or billing format required by the contract.
  • Support monthly billing, cost-to-complete reports and collections, and follow up on unpaid balances.
  • Document changes in the work, send them to estimating for pricing, and finalize change order pricing to protect margin.
  • Make sure no extra work starts before approval or notice to proceed.

Procurement & Field Coordination

  • Choose subcontractors and equipment suppliers with input from engineering, estimating and purchasing.
  • Request purchase orders for major equipment and subcontracts, including shipping requirements and expected delivery dates.
  • Coordinate material takeoffs with trade foremen, and make sure the field always has current drawings.
  • Keep low-voltage estimating and manpower tracking up to date every week.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Make sure the project team handles all project documents on time, including insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFIs, change orders, billing and correspondence.
  • Monitor work for compliance with building, safety and environmental codes and regulations.
  • Partner with foremen on jobsite safety, including toolbox talks and weekly safety walks.

Communication & Closeout

  • Lead and attend internal and external meetings on schedules, deliveries, work plans, progress, manpower and recovery plans.
  • Work with owners, general contractors, design professionals and supervisors to resolve work procedures, concerns and construction problems.
  • Raise critical or sensitive issues to senior leadership along with a recommended solution.
  • Manage final closeout, including test reports and as-built drawings, and coordinate final CAD updates.
  • Build strong, lasting customer relationships.
  • Follow company policies, procedures and safety programs, and take on other assignments as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of electrical project management experience
  • Experience managing commercial, industrial and/or healthcare construction projects
  • Strong understanding of construction schedules, contract documents and project coordination
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management preferred; master's degree a plus

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and low-voltage or construction software
  • Experience with project management, document control and construction accounting software

What We're Looking For

  • Integrity, professionalism and accountability
  • Stays calm and effective under pressure in a fast-paced setting
  • Self-motivated, with strong organization, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High quality standards and close attention to detail
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise field and project staff
  • Builds good working relationships with employees, management, suppliers and customers
