A well-established construction organization is seeking a Labor Relations Coordinator to support labor relations, workforce administration, and employee relations across its operations in Hawaii. This position plays an important role in supporting collective bargaining agreements, partnering with union representatives and management, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and contractual requirements. The ideal candidate brings construction labor relations experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage sensitive workplace matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for labor unions and employee representatives.
- Administer and interpret craft collective bargaining agreements, ensuring compliance by union and company personnel.
- Coordinate grievance meetings, investigations, responses, and resolution while maintaining accurate records and tracking.
- Assist with contract negotiations, pre-job conferences, and labor-related meetings.
- Support union workforce planning, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and orientation for craft employees.
- Process unemployment claims and assist with related hearings and documentation.
- Prepare workforce reports, including absenteeism, turnover, apprentice utilization, and affirmative action evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Coordinate drug and alcohol testing program requirements, including applicable transportation-related regulations.
- Assist in workplace investigations and the resolution of employee relations matters.
- Maintain current workforce rosters and communicate site work rules and labor requirements.
- Support workforce activities related to layoffs, shutdowns, strikes, and other labor-related events.
- Prepare written work assignments and determinations to ensure clear communication and implementation.
- Represent the organization in applicable labor and employment-related hearings, as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Approximately 4–5 years of construction labor relations experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, negotiations, grievance administration, and craft workforce recruiting.
- Familiarity with Hawaii labor unions, trade associations, and construction workforce practices.
- Knowledge of HR principles, employment laws, and labor relations regulations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong judgment and the ability to resolve workplace concerns diplomatically and professionally.
