Manufacturing Design Engineer | Charlotte, NC

We are partnering with an innovative engineering organization at the forefront of defense robotics to hire a Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys developing real-world products and wants to work on next-generation unmanned vehicles and advanced electro-mechanical systems.

Manufacturing Design Engineer Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 2- 5 years professional design or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, or manufacturing equipment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX or related) for modeling and drawings
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and production methods
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and apply sound engineering judgment
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable collaborating with engineers, technicians, welders, machinists, and production teams

Manufacturing Design Engineer Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience in production or prototype manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with robotic welding or welding fixture design

Manufacturing Design Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids—including for robotic welding stations
  • Modify part designs and drawings to optimize manufacturability, assembly, and quality
  • Collaborate with production personnel to identify manufacturing challenges and engineer practical solutions
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation
  • Support standardized process development and continuous improvement activities
  • Troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, or production issues and drive corrective actions through implementation
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams to improve cycle time, ergonomics, repeatability, and efficiency across manufacturing processes
  • Must be eligible to work on ITAR-regulated programs (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. Person)
