We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to lead the development of accurate, competitive electrical estimates for commercial and industrial construction projects. This role partners closely with project managers, engineers, customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal estimating personnel throughout the bid process.
The Senior Electrical Estimator will manage estimates from initial takeoff through bid handoff, evaluate project risks and requirements, prepare detailed scope documentation, and help coordinate estimating resources as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong estimator who can work independently, collaborate effectively, and perform well under deadline-driven conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop complete cost estimates from takeoff through final bid handoff in collaboration with assigned Project Managers.
- Review project drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents to develop a thorough understanding of project scope.
- Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs.
- Prepare estimates for change orders and scope revisions as needed.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, scope-review meetings, job walks, and other project-related meetings when required.
- Prepare detailed scope letters, bid clarifications, inclusions, exclusions, and proposal documentation.
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from material vendors, equipment suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Communicate with engineers, owners, general contractors, customers, vendors, and internal project teams to clarify scope and resolve estimating issues.
- Assess project risks, constructability considerations, labor requirements, schedule constraints, and other factors affecting project cost and delivery.
- Coordinate, organize, and support other estimators on larger or more complex pursuits.
- Maintain organized estimating files, pricing documentation, bid records, and project-related correspondence.
- Perform additional estimating and preconstruction responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction estimating practices, materials, labor factors, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and low-voltage systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate electrical blueprints, specifications, bid documents, and technical drawings.
- Experience estimating both large-scale and smaller electrical construction projects.
- Ability to identify and evaluate risks associated with varying project types, delivery methods, and scope conditions.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and remain composed in a high-pressure bid environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related applications.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative estimating and project management team.
Education & Experience
Candidates should meet one of the following combinations of education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent with 8–10 years of relevant electrical estimating experience.
- Associate degree with 6–8 years of relevant electrical estimating experience.
- Bachelor’s degree with 2–4 years of relevant electrical estimating experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using ConEst or similar electrical estimating software.
- Hands-on electrical construction, field, or installation experience.
- Prior experience mentoring, coordinating, or reviewing the work of junior estimators.
- Experience supporting commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, data center, or other complex electrical projects.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment with regular finger and hand dexterity.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through written correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed written, numerical, and visual information, including drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Ability to occasionally attend job walks, meetings, and project site visits as required.
