Corporate Controller Requirements & Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • 10–15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Experience leading accounting operations in a multi-entity environment
  • Strong background in financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance (GAAP)
  • Experience managing audits and working with external auditors
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting operations including general ledger, treasury, cash management, and financial reporting
  • Lead month-end close process and produce accurate, timely financial statements
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure compliance
  • Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy including 13-week cash flow modeling
  • Manage outsourced functions including payroll and tax compliance
  • Prepare and present financial insights to executive leadership, board members, and private equity stakeholders
  • Monitor debt structures and ensure compliance with financial covenants
  • Drive continuous improvement across accounting systems, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency

Corporate Controller Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth environments
  • Background in multi-unit, franchise, or retail-driven organizations
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP
  • Exposure to SEC reporting and complex tax structures
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and external partners
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
  • Proven track record of building scalable processes and developing talent
