About Gomez Floor Covering

Gomez Floor Covering is a family-owned specialty flooring contractor founded in 1996, with offices in San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. GFC delivers commercial flooring along with complete renovations, including carpentry, paint, and space planning and design, for both occupied buildings and new construction.

The Opportunity

This is a new position. You will take over day-to-day project execution so our Project Manager / Regional VP can focus on major issues, key client relationships, and growing the business. You will work closely with our estimators, project coordinators, and production manager, and you will be the eyes and ears on our San Antonio projects.

The role is a strong next step for an experienced project coordinator, assistant project manager, or project engineer who wants to grow toward project management in commercial flooring.

What You Will Do

  • Manage the day-to-day execution of multiple commercial flooring projects from start to finish.
  • Visit active job sites throughout the San Antonio area to review progress, quality, and schedule.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Project Manager, production manager, estimators, project coordinators, field crews, and customers.
  • Report project status to the Project Manager, including progress, red flags, and proposed solutions.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and schedules as they relate to flooring and interior finishes.
  • Support bid and quote preparation, and help predict project duration and cost.
  • Identify field conditions that may require change orders and coordinate them with the project team.
  • Review work at every stage to make sure schedules, specifications, and customer requirements are met, and maintain quality control.
  • Verify receipt of materials and deliveries, and help reduce waste and use materials efficiently.
  • Attend project meetings, take meeting notes, and schedule follow-up meetings as needed.
  • Build strong customer relationships and keep clients satisfied.
  • Identify new business opportunities when they come up. This is a plus, not a requirement.

Takeoffs, submittals, purchase orders, installer scheduling, billing, and closeout are handled by our estimators and project coordinators. You should understand all of these processes well enough to support them and keep projects moving.

What You Bring

  • Commercial flooring experience. This is the most important qualification.
  • 3+ years of experience as a construction project coordinator, assistant project manager, project engineer, or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and the overall project management process.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to address issues in the field and propose solutions.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage several projects and deadlines at once.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • High school diploma or GED. A college degree is not required.
  • Valid driver's license, and the ability to pass a background check and a driving record check.

Preferred

  • Experience with estimating, takeoff, or project management software such as MeasureSquare, Calidus, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or Procore. We will train you on our systems.
  • Experience in related commercial finish trades or general contracting, such as tile, ceilings, drywall, paint, or millwork.
  • Project management training or certification, such as PMP or CAPM.

Schedule and Travel

  • Monday through Friday, with hours that vary with project load and peak seasons. Some weekend work may be required.
  • About 50% of your time will be spent traveling locally between San Antonio job sites. No overnight travel.

Compensation and Resources

  • $55,000–$75,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Company-provided computer and cell phone.
  • Mileage reimbursement for work travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, and reaching.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work takes place in both an office setting and active construction sites.

Gomez Floor Covering is an equal opportunity employer. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
