General Manager – Plumbing Service
Gardena | Full-Time | Onsite
About the Opportunity
I'm working with a well-established, growing commercial plumbing contractor in Southern California to find a General Manager for its commercial & residential service division. The company handles service and repair, tenant improvements and design-build construction for commercial & residential customers, and provides 24/7 emergency service. This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for the service business: profit and loss, operations, people and customers. You'll lead a large fleet of service technicians and the office team that supports them, and you'll help grow the division as part of the company's expansion.
What You'll Do
Business Leadership & Profit and Loss
- Own the service division's profit and loss, including revenue, gross margin, labor efficiency and overhead
- Build and manage the annual budget, forecasts and growth plan with executive leadership
- Set pricing strategy and improve job costing, billing accuracy and cash collection
- Track and report key numbers, including revenue per technician, billable hours, close rates, callbacks and service agreement renewals
Operations
- Oversee daily service operations: dispatch, scheduling, technician productivity, parts and inventory, and the vehicle fleet
- Ensure fast, high-quality response for emergency and 24/7 service calls
- Standardize service processes, quoting and field reporting through service management software
- Work with the construction and project teams on handoffs, tenant improvement work and cross-selling
People & Culture
- Lead, hire, coach and keep service managers, dispatchers, estimators, service sales staff and field technicians
- Build a strong safety culture and make sure safety programs and regulations are followed
- Create training paths and career growth for apprentices, journeymen and field leaders
- Hold managers and teams to clear performance standards and accountability
Customers & Growth
- Grow the division through new commercial accounts, service agreements and preventive maintenance programs
- Build strong relationships with property managers, facility directors, general contractors and national accounts
- Lead the response to escalated customer issues and protect service quality and the company's reputation
- Find new markets, service lines and growth opportunities
What You Bring
Required:
- 10+ years in commercial plumbing or mechanical service, including 5+ years leading a service department, branch or division
- Proven profit and loss responsibility, with a record of growing revenue and improving margins
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including water heaters, backflow, drain and sewer, repiping, fixtures and pumps
- Experience leading large field service teams and managing dispatch, scheduling and fleet operations
- Strong financial skills, including budgeting, job costing, pricing and KPI management
- Proficiency with service management software such as ServiceTitan or similar, and Microsoft Office
- Excellent leadership, communication and customer relationship skills
Preferred:
- Journeyman or master plumber background, or a C-36 Plumbing Contractor license
- Experience with service agreements, preventive maintenance programs and national accounts
- Background in a growth-focused or multi-location services company
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Bachelor's degree in business, construction management or a related field
