Logistics Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of logistics or transportation management experience
  • Proven leadership experience directing logistics or warehouse teams
  • Proficiency in Excel and transportation/warehouse management systems
  • Strong knowledge of transportation, freight, and logistics operations
  • Effective communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Logistics Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience in food, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or manufacturing industries
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements
  • ERP system expertise (NetSuite or similar)
  • Proficiency in Google Docs and MS Office applications
  • Experience with demand planning and forecasting

Logistics Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily logistics operations including inbound and outbound freight
  • Manage and negotiate relationships with carriers, freight brokers, and third-party logistics providers
  • Develop and manage routing and delivery schedules to meet customer and production timelines
  • Monitor KPIs such as on-time delivery, freight cost per unit, and carrier performance, driving continuous improvement
  • Lead, train, and develop the logistics team for high performance
  • Coordinate with warehouse, production, and supply chain teams to align capacity and inventory needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve shipping delays, discrepancies, or delivery issues
  • Ensure compliance with applicable transportation regulations
  • Support logistics forecasting and planning with accurate data and reporting
  • Lead meetings with manufacturing partners and present production schedules to leadership
