The Director of Operations leads a multi-unit restaurant portfolio across California, providing hands-on leadership to General Managers and driving performance through accountability, sales growth, and operational consistency. This role oversees 7–8 locations with varying sales volumes and leadership maturity and requires a visible, motivating leader who delivers measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Accountability
- Lead, coach, and develop General Managers through consistent in-restaurant presence and performance management.
- Set clear expectations and hold leaders accountable to KPIs, behaviors, and operating standards.
- Identify performance gaps and implement corrective action plans with defined timelines.
- Build leadership bench strength through hiring, development, and succession planning.
Sales Growth & Guest Experience
- Drive sales performance by improving guest experience, execution, and team engagement.
- Ensure consistent execution of promotions, local marketing initiatives, and sales-driving programs.
- Coach leaders on hospitality behaviors, conversion opportunities, and repeat-guest engagement.
- Partner cross-functionally to support underperforming locations.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure consistent execution of food quality, service standards, cleanliness, safety, and brand presentation.
- Establish routines that drive consistency, including restaurant visits, operating reviews, and follow-ups.
- Lead performance improvement and turnaround efforts as needed.
Financial Performance
- Own performance across sales, labor, food cost, controllables, and profitability.
- Review financial results, identify trends, and lead course-correction efforts.
- Coach General Managers on financial understanding and operational levers.
- Ensure staffing, scheduling, and cost decisions protect both profitability and guest experience.
Qualifications
- Multi-unit restaurant operations leadership experience overseeing multiple locations.
- Full-service restaurant background; high-volume or brand-driven experience preferred.
- Proven ability to improve performance through leadership development and accountability.
- Demonstrated success driving sales growth through guest experience and execution.
- Strong P&L knowledge and comfort leading data-driven performance discussions.
- Hands-on, field-focused leadership style.
- Ability to travel regularly within California.
