Associate Civil Engineer
The Associate Engineer performs professional civil engineering work involving the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure projects. This position supports capital improvement initiatives, land development, and traffic engineering while coordinating with contractors, developers, and other agencies. Work involves both office and field assignments and requires sound engineering judgment, project management skills, and a commitment to public service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive professional experience in civil engineering or public works.
- Registered Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California, or the ability to obtain registration within a reasonable timeframe.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and project management software for plan design and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of public infrastructure design, including water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and oversee construction of public works projects including roads, water systems, wastewater facilities, and drainage systems.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for accuracy, compliance, and technical quality.
- Serve as project manager or resident engineer, coordinating contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Conduct field inspections, evaluate site conditions, and resolve engineering and construction challenges.
- Prepare reports, cost analyses, and technical recommendations for department management and public meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing public works projects.
