Manufacturing Design Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 2- 5 years professional design or manufacturing engineering experience
- Experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, or manufacturing equipment
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX or related) for modeling and drawings
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and production methods
- Ability to interpret GD&T and apply sound engineering judgment
- Hands-on problem-solving skills
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers, technicians, welders, machinists, and production teams
Manufacturing Design Engineer Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience in production or prototype manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with robotic welding or welding fixture design
Manufacturing Design Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids—including for robotic welding stations
- Modify part designs and drawings to optimize manufacturability, assembly, and quality
- Collaborate with production personnel to identify manufacturing challenges and engineer practical solutions
- Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation
- Support standardized process development and continuous improvement activities
- Troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, or production issues and drive corrective actions through implementation
- Work alongside cross-functional teams to improve cycle time, ergonomics, repeatability, and efficiency across manufacturing processes
- Must be eligible to work on ITAR-regulated programs (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. Person)
