Restaurant General Manager Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of General Manager experience at an upscale, full-service restaurant with annual revenues exceeding $10M
- Proven success leading teams of up to 90 employees with a focus on accountability, coaching, and operational excellence
- Demonstrated ability to interact confidently with ownership, executives, VIP clientele, celebrities, and high-net-worth guests while upholding exceptional service standards
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L, labor, food and beverage costs, inventory controls, and profitability
- In-depth knowledge of New York City and NY State employment laws, wage and hour compliance, and HR best practices
- Hands-on operational leader who is highly visible and leads by example during service and peak-volume periods
- Ownership mentality with a drive for continuous improvement and accountability for guest satisfaction and business performance
Restaurant General Manager Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience overseeing a rooftop bar with a dining venue, lifestyle hospitality concept, or high-volume hotel restaurant
- Strong emotional intelligence and polished communication skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels
Restaurant General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Direct all front-of-house and overall restaurant operations to ensure an exceptional guest experience
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a high-performing management team and staff of up to 90 employees
- Partner with ownership to execute strategic initiatives, drive financial performance, and uphold brand reputation
- Build and maintain relationships with VIP guests, community leaders, and repeat clientele, delivering personalized hospitality
- Ensure compliance with all NYC and NYS labor laws, health regulations, liquor licensing, and company policies
- Analyze financials, labor metrics, and operations KPIs to maximize profitability while maintaining top-tier quality and service standards
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the restaurant and rooftop bar, proactively resolving guest concerns and supporting the team during service
