Senior Construction Project Manager Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or a minimum of 5 years’ related experience with applicable certifications and training
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required
- 15+ years of experience in utility, transportation, real estate development, water/wastewater, mining, or other civil construction projects
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, including managing construction phase projects
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check
- Proven expertise in construction administration or management
- Deep knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant regulations
- Strong understanding of construction business practices, permitting, zoning, and environmental requirements
- CPM scheduling experience
Senior Construction Project Manager Preferred Background & Skills
- LEED accreditation or comprehensive training in sustainable design and construction
- Experience in engineering and construction management consulting
- Background in construction contracting
Senior Construction Project Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison between design teams and construction partners—including owners, contractors, and engineers
- Oversee and direct complex construction projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Manage budgeting, scheduling, and cost estimation for civil projects, providing regular internal and external reporting
- Conduct on-site observation and inspection, addressing quality control and ensuring project requirements are met
- Lead, mentor, and review the work of project staff to drive accountability and professional growth
- Interface directly with client representatives to resolve field issues, administer contracts, and ensure project objectives are achieved
- Evaluate and negotiate change orders, contracts, and permits, and support clients in securing all approvals
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while maintaining a strict focus on constructability and value engineering
