Commercial HVAC Technician Requirements & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC service and repair
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC controls, motors, compressors, and burners
- Experience with commercial kitchen hot-side equipment such as fryers, ovens, and grills preferred
- Strong knowledge of electrical, gas, and mechanical systems
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in high-temperature kitchen environments
- EPA Certification for refrigerant handling (preferred)
- Comfortable climbing ladders and working in tight spaces
Commercial HVAC Technician Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience working with restaurants or commercial foodservice organizations
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs in commercial kitchens
- Understanding of gas lines, combustion systems, and ventilation hood systems
Commercial HVAC Technician Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC and hot-side kitchen equipment, such as rooftop units, ovens, fryers, and ventilation systems
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve heating, cooling, and refrigeration issues in commercial settings
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to ensure proper service
- Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and parts inventory
- Communicate clearly with clients and management on repair recommendations and service needs
- Respond to emergency service calls to restore essential kitchen and HVAC systems
