Senior Estate Attorney Requirements & Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) and Pennsylvania Bar admission required
- Minimum 8 years post-JD experience in Trusts & Estates or Estate Planning
- Demonstrated expertise managing sophisticated, high-value estate matters
- Deep knowledge of estate, gift, GST, and fiduciary income tax laws; LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning highly preferred
- Significant experience advising ultra-high-net-worth ($50mm+) clients and business owners on multi-generational wealth transfer
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Ability to independently handle complex matters and support a team-based practice
Senior Estate Attorney Preferred Background & Skills
- Background in law firm Trusts & Estates, private client, or HNW estate planning
- Experience in mid-to-large full-service or regional firms
- Proficiency with estate planning and trust administration software, legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis), and document management systems
- Professional, collaborative, and client-facing approach with low-ego, team-oriented mindset
Senior Estate Attorney Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Advise high-net-worth clients on advanced estate planning and wealth transfer strategies, including GRATs, SLATs, charitable trusts, and GST solutions
- Lead trust and estate administration, including complex probate, fiduciary compliance, and post-mortem tax planning
- Counsel clients on minimizing estate, gift, and GST taxes
- Provide guidance on business succession planning and family business transfers
- Draft intricate legal documents and oversee multi-jurisdictional issues
- Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and paralegals
- Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and family offices to deliver fully integrated client solutions
