Civil Construction Superintendent Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 3 years in a superintendent role
- Experience with public works or municipal water treatment projects required
- Proven track record managing water treatment plant or similar infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of concrete construction, excavation, and mechanical systems installation
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and environmental compliance for water treatment facilities
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, PMP, or equivalent
- Experience working for a contractor
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
Civil Construction Superintendent Preferred Background & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred
- Proficiency with construction management software such as HCSS Heavy Job, Masterworks, or similar
Civil Construction Superintendent Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the water treatment plant refit and renovation project
- Coordinate and supervise construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors
- Ensure strict compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules, proactively resolving issues to keep the project on track
- Oversee installation and upgrades of piping, concrete structures, and mechanical equipment
- Maintain ongoing, clear communication with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders
- Conduct regular site inspections for quality control and compliance with environmental standards
- Address on-site challenges and implement effective solutions to maintain project milestones
