Plant Manager
Chemical Manufacturing | Batch / Tolling Environment
Location: Chattanooga, TN Area (On-Site)
A private equity–backed chemical manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to lead operations at a recently acquired batch chemical manufacturing facility. The site is in an active turnaround and growth phase, creating a high-impact opportunity for a leader who excels in fast-paced, execution-focused environments.
The Opportunity
This is a build-and-lead role, not a maintenance position.
The Plant Manager will be responsible for establishing structure, driving accountability, and building a performance-oriented culture within a 24/7 batch chemical operation. The facility employs approximately 40 team members across four shifts and supports a tolling manufacturing model handling moderately hazardous materials.
You will have full ownership of plant performance while partnering closely with engineering, regulatory, lab, and warehouse teams to support ongoing expansion and operational improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Own overall site performance including safety, PSM, production, quality, maintenance, and cost
- Lead and develop a team of ~30–35 employees across operations and maintenance
- Establish a culture of accountability, urgency, and execution
- Strengthen and formalize Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and practices
- Drive continuous improvement in throughput, reliability, and operational discipline
- Support implementation of new customer processes and site growth initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally with EHS, Regulatory, Engineering, Lab, and Supply Chain
- Evaluate and improve organizational structure, workflows, and communication
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Proven leadership experience in manufacturing operations (chemical manufacturing strongly preferred)
- Experience in batch processing environments
- Working knowledge of PSM and high-hazard chemical operations
- Hands-on leadership style with a strong presence on the plant floor
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, low-bureaucracy environment
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance safety, quality, and production
- Experience in non-union environments preferred
A degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field is helpful, but practical chemical manufacturing leadership experience is the priority.
Why This Role
- High-impact leadership role with full operational ownership
- Opportunity to rebuild and shape plant culture and performance
- Backed by a private equity group investing in growth and expansion
- Fast decision-making environment with minimal bureaucracy
- Visible role with direct influence on site success
Apply today to lead a facility positioned for growth and transformation.
