We are seeking a talented and experienced Chief Structural Inspector. This position presents an excellent opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to take on diverse work assignments. Chief Structural Inspector Job Responsibilities:
- Review plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with applicable city, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Conduct preconstruction conferences with contractors, developers, and associated staff members
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to inspection personnel regarding field-related issues
- Assess and resolve complaints received from clients, applicants, the public, designers, and contractors
- Engage regularly with municipal clients and their staff to provide support and expertise
- Perform inspections as needed, providing interpretation and application of building codes in the field
- Attend meetings, educational seminars, and functions related to building codes to stay informed of industry trends and regulations
Chief Structural Inspector Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures and technology
- Strong ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information using relevant software programs
- Capability to handle multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity and continued education with various editions of the International Building Codes
- Ability to effectively interact with staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management, organizational abilities, and keen attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment in problem-solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications
- Valid Plans Examiner License (state-specific requirements apply)
- 3-5 years of combined experience in building department field inspection and plans examiner duties
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced education or certifications are a plus
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
