Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon – 1099 Locum
Flexible 1–2 Days/Week | $3,000–$5,000/Day | Company-Paid Travel
Are you an experienced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who wants to continue practicing without committing to another traditional full-time position?
We are recruiting a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for a highly flexible 1099 locum opportunity providing coverage across an established network of practices in West Virginia.
This opportunity may be especially attractive to an OMS looking for 1–2 additional clinical days per week, a surgeon transitioning between practices, or an experienced provider who wants to remain clinically active while maintaining control over their schedule.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- $3,000–$5,000 daily compensation
- 1099 independent contractor structure
- Approximately 1–2 days of coverage per week based on need and availability
- No minimum ongoing commitment
- Company-paid airfare/mileage, hotel, rental car, and reasonable travel expenses
- Malpractice and tail coverage provided
- Scheduling targeted approximately one month in advance whenever possible
- Flexibility to maintain your existing practice or other professional commitments
- Internal credentialing support available for West Virginia licensure and required permits
Coverage Locations
Coverage may be needed across practices located in:
- Huntington
- Charleston
- Kanawha City
- Parkersburg
- Beckley
- Princeton
The surgeon does not need to currently reside in West Virginia. Qualified providers within reasonable travel distance who are comfortable traveling to the practices as needed are encouraged to explore the opportunity.
Clinical Responsibilities
The locum surgeon will provide oral and maxillofacial surgery services based on the clinical needs of the practice being covered. Responsibilities may include:
- Dentoalveolar surgery and complex extractions
- Dental implant placement
- Bone grafting and related procedures
- Sedation and anesthesia
- Full-scope outpatient oral surgery
- Patient consultation, treatment planning, and postoperative care
- Collaboration with practice teams and referring providers
- Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and standards of care
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must:
- Hold a DDS or DMD from an accredited institution
- Have successfully completed an accredited Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency
- Be Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
- Hold or be eligible to obtain a West Virginia dental license
- Hold or be eligible to obtain the appropriate West Virginia sedation/anesthesia permits
- Meet required credentialing and malpractice standards
- Be comfortable providing coverage at multiple West Virginia locations
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to integrate quickly into established practice teams
A current West Virginia license is preferred but not required to begin the conversation. Credentialing assistance is available for qualified surgeons who need to obtain West Virginia licensure and/or required permits.
Schedule
Coverage is expected to average approximately 1–2 days per week, although actual needs will vary.
There is no minimum commitment, providing significant flexibility for surgeons who maintain another practice, are semi-retired, or simply want additional clinical opportunities.
Coverage will ideally be scheduled approximately one month in advance whenever possible.
Opportunities are anticipated for 2027 and potentially sooner.
If you are a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon interested in a flexible way to continue practicing while earning an attractive daily rate without relocating or committing to a traditional full-time schedule, I would welcome a confidential conversation.
