Project Manager (Utility T&D and Substations)
Locations: Akron, OH | Pittsburgh, PA | Reading, PA | Richmond, VA
Work Arrangement: On-Site
Our client is a growing project and program management consulting firm supporting major electric utility infrastructure and capital improvement programs. They are expanding their project-management team and looking for experienced utility professionals who want to take ownership of complex, highly visible infrastructure projects.
This opportunity specifically requires hands-on electric utility Transmission, Distribution and/or Substation project experience. Candidates must have direct experience managing utility infrastructure projects through the construction/execution phase. General construction, commercial electrical, IT, telecom, facilities, or engineering/design experience without direct utility T&D/Substation project management will not meet the requirements of this position.
What You'll Do
You'll take ownership of electric utility capital projects from preconstruction through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout, working directly with engineering teams, contractors, field personnel and utility stakeholders.
- Manage Transmission, Distribution and/or Substation capital projects
- Own project scope, schedule, budget, forecasting and cost controls
- Manage contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and vendors
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction and utility operations
- Lead preconstruction, progress, contractor and client meetings
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and contract administration
- Coordinate outages, permitting, ROW and environmental requirements as applicable
- Monitor field construction for safety, quality, schedule and cost performance
- Manage project risks and drive solutions to schedule, cost and construction challenges
- Coordinate procurement and material/equipment requirements
- Support testing, commissioning, startup and energization
- Prepare project status, cost, schedule and risk reporting
- Manage turnover documentation, punch lists, warranties and final project closeout
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining strong client relationships
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of relevant project/construction management experience
- Direct electric utility T&D and/or Substation project-management experience is required
- Multiple years of experience supporting utility construction project sites
- Demonstrated experience managing projects through the construction/execution phase
- Experience with projects such as transmission line construction/rebuilds, distribution circuit/feeder upgrades, overhead/underground distribution, pole replacements, substations, transformer/equipment replacements, protection/relay upgrades or similar utility infrastructure
- Experience managing contractors and subcontractors
- Hands-on responsibility for budgets, forecasts, schedules and cost controls
- Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders and project closeout
- Strong engineering/construction coordination experience
- Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred; significant directly applicable utility experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- PMP certification or willingness to obtain PMP within six months
- OSHA 10/30 strongly preferred
- Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project experience preferred
- Must be comfortable working on-site in the assigned market
- U.S. work authorization without sponsorship required
Compensation & Key Benefits
Base Salary: $125,000–$175,000, depending on experience and depth of utility T&D/Substation expertise.
