Job Title: Electrical Operations Manager | Industrial & Mission Critical
Location: Remote, with travel
Position Overview
The Electrical Operations Manager oversees national industrial and mission critical projects and is accountable for its growth, profitability, people, and project performance. This role oversees a portfolio of large-scale commercial, industrial, and mission-critical electrical construction projects across multiple markets.
Key Responsibilities
Division Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the division operating plan, including revenue, profit, backlog, staffing, and overhead goals.
- Establish clear accountability for project leaders and review division performance, risks, and corrective actions with executive leadership.
- Evaluate new markets and project opportunities against client quality, execution capacity, labor availability, and financial risk.
Business Development & Client Relationships
- Build relationships with national clients, general contractors, and project partners to secure repeat work and profitable growth.
- Partner with estimating and preconstruction on pursuit selection, pricing, proposals, scope reviews, and project handoffs.
- Lead commercial discussions within delegated authority and obtain required approvals before committing company resources or accepting contract terms.
Project Execution & National Operations
- Oversee project delivery from preconstruction and mobilization through commissioning, closeout, and final collection.
- Hold project leaders accountable for schedules, labor productivity, procurement, quality, and recovery plans.
- Coordinate manpower, traveling supervision, equipment, and mobilization plans across projects and regions.
- Align estimating, VDC, prefabrication, purchasing, and field operations to support efficient installation and timely delivery.
- Confirm project readiness with internal partners, including local labor plans, licensing requirements, site logistics, and long-lead materials.
Financial Performance & Risk Management
- Own division profit and loss performance, including revenue, margins, overhead, and cash flow against approved plans.
- Review monthly work-in-progress reports, cost-to-complete forecasts, labor projections, and margin changes with project teams and accounting.
- Drive timely billing, change order recovery, receivable collection, and resolution of unbilled costs and retainage.
- Review contract obligations and project exposures; escalate material risks and lead corrective action with executive leadership.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, develop, and retain project managers and field leaders capable of delivering complex national projects.
- Set expectations, coach direct reports, evaluate performance, and build succession plans for key positions.
- Coordinate with field leadership and human resources on staffing, workforce development, and travel assignments.
Safety & Quality
- Hold leaders accountable for company safety programs and safe work practices; support stopping unsafe work and correcting hazards.
- Partner with safety and quality teams to review incidents, audits, rework, and corrective actions across the division.
- Ensure teams plan inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover to meet contract and client requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 12+ years of progressive electrical construction experience, including 5+ years leading project managers, multiple projects, or a business unit.
- Demonstrated responsibility for profit and loss, financial forecasting, staffing, and performance across a portfolio of projects.
- Proven success delivering large-scale electrical projects, preferably in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical markets.
- Experience managing geographically dispersed teams, traveling labor, and project mobilizations in multiple markets.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC requirements, construction methods, contracts, and project delivery.
- Ability to build client relationships, negotiate commercial issues, and make sound staffing and investment decisions.
- Proficiency with financial reporting and project management tools such as Viewpoint, Procore, MS Project, and Bluebeam.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites and client locations nationwide.
