Maintenance Supervisor
The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the maintenance department at our ferrous recycling facility. This role is responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing the maintenance team; coordinating maintenance projects; troubleshooting equipment issues; and ensuring safety and operational standards are met. The Night Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Uphold and enforce company, safety, and environmental policies.
- Supervise and manage the maintenance team, including work assignments, productivity, scheduling, attendance, performance, discipline, and hours worked.
- Under the direction of the Operations Manager, schedule and communicate maintenance projects and priorities with the maintenance team, shredder day crew, and management.
- Ensure the production plant is in a ready-to-run state at the end of the maintenance shift.
- Troubleshoot and identify issues with industrial equipment, including conveyors, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Maintain and manage spare parts, tools, maintenance records, confined-space permits, mobile equipment documentation, and injury reports.
- Maintain accurate time and attendance records in the payroll system.
- Ensure employees are properly trained in support equipment and critical safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, and Confined Space.
- Participate in employee disciplinary actions and recognize employees who demonstrate strong safety practices and contribute to company goals.
- Identify the causes of operational and equipment problems and develop recommendations for process and maintenance improvements to present to the Operations Manager.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 3–5 years of maintenance supervisory or lead experience, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling, or similar environment.
- Strong leadership skills and working knowledge of maintenance concepts and practices.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and hand-tool knowledge, with the ability to operate equipment as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Experience supervising, training, and developing employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse, multicultural workforce.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
- High school diploma or GED typically required.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
