Currently seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to oversee daily operations of its nonferrous metal processing facility. The role is responsible for production, people, inventory/material control, maintenance, quality, shipping/receiving, safety, and overall plant performance.
Direct scrap metal, recycling, or metals-processing experience is strongly preferred, particularly with nonferrous metals, copper/brass, insulated copper wire, sorting, separation, and recovery.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily plant operations, production scheduling, material flow, shipping and receiving.
- Manage supervisors and hourly employees; oversee hiring, training, performance, attendance, and accountability.
- Improve throughput, labor efficiency, equipment utilization, recovery/yield, and overall productivity.
- Oversee raw material, WIP, and finished-goods inventory; ensure accurate identification, tracking, weighing, and reconciliation.
- Direct maintenance activities and preventive maintenance; monitor downtime, recurring failures, repairs, and equipment reliability.
- Oversee nonferrous sorting, grading, processing, recovery, and finished-product quality.
- Ensure customer specifications and shipment requirements are met.
- Establish and monitor operating metrics including production, downtime, recovery, labor efficiency, inventory accuracy, quality, and safety.
- Enforce safety, housekeeping, work procedures, and operating standards.
- Identify root causes of operational and equipment issues and implement lasting improvements.
- Provide ownership with regular updates on plant performance, staffing, equipment, inventory, and improvement opportunities.
- Make day-to-day operating decisions independently while escalating major financial, staffing, equipment, or capital decisions to ownership.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of plant/operations management experience
- Strong industrial production leadership experience
- Background in scrap metal, recycling, metals processing, or a related industry
- Nonferrous processing experience highly preferred
- Experience with copper/brass, insulated wire, sorting/grading, material recovery, and high-value inventory
- Strong understanding of production, maintenance, material flow, quality, safety, and inventory control
- Hands-on, mechanically minded leader who is comfortable on the plant floor
- Proven ability to build accountability, improve processes, and reduce downtime
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but relevant industry experience can substitute
