Assistant Project Manager – Commercial Construction
Location: Santa Clara, CA | On-Site
Salary: $80,000–$105,000
A well-established commercial general contractor in Santa Clara is seeking an organized and motivated Assistant Project Manager (APM) with 1–3 years of commercial construction experience. This office-based role will support multiple commercial and industrial projects, including cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing facilities, and tenant improvements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career construction professional who wants hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle and a clear path toward becoming a Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with daily project coordination and documentation
- Create and maintain project files, logs, and tracking reports
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, work plans, and material samples
- Assist with project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, and bidding
- Perform construction takeoffs and review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and field teams
- Support material and equipment procurement, tracking, receiving, and site delivery
- Attend project meetings, site walks, and inspections as needed
- Prepare closeout documentation, O&M manuals, and turnover packages
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the office team
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of commercial construction experience
- Construction Management, Engineering, or related degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Experience with RFIs, submittals, takeoffs, project documentation, or subcontractor coordination
- Familiarity with commercial construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail
- Proactive, dependable, and willing to learn
- Comfortable working independently and supporting multiple Project Managers
- Strong written, verbal, and professional phone communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a background check
- Must meet applicable client and project-site eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship where contractually required
Schedule
- Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Primarily office-based in Santa Clara
- Local candidates strongly preferred
