We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the engineering, asset management, and system operations teams that keep power flowing safely and reliably across northern and eastern Maine. This is a senior leadership role, not a hands-on design role. You will lead a large, multi-discipline organization through managers and program leaders, with the biggest focus on the asset management group that builds the company's capital plan and supports the regulatory work behind it. This is a chance to shape the direction of an evolving grid at a utility with the highest distributed generation and solar penetration of any utility in North America, where the engineering challenges are real and no two days look the same.
Director of Engineering Compensation and Benefits:
- Base salary range of $140,000 to $200,000, commensurate with experience
- Corporate incentive bonus based on company performance
- Relocation assistance and/or sign-on available for the right candidate
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
- Employer-paid life and AD&D insurance, plus short and long-term disability
- Health savings and flexible spending accounts
- Education reimbursement up to $5,250 per year
- Paid time off, holidays, sick leave, and parental and bereavement leave
- Hybrid work schedule
- Long-term career stability within the utility sector
Director of Engineering Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years of senior leadership and management experience
- Proven ability to lead large teams across multiple technical disciplines
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
- Utility experience is ideal, but candidates from power generation, industrial, consulting, and other heavy engineering environments are encouraged to apply
- Comfort operating in a regulated environment, or the ability to get up to speed on capital planning and regulatory work quickly
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required
- Willingness to relocate to the Bangor area
- Valid driver's license
Director of Engineering Responsibilities:
- Lead transmission and distribution strategy and day-to-day operations
- Oversee the asset management team that develops the company's capital plan
- Ensure capital dollars are directed to the right projects and investments
- Support the development of defensible regulatory cases and testimony for the state commission
- Lead engineering, system operations, field technician, and AMI teams through layers of managers
- Manage both capital and O&M budgets in line with business strategy
- Guide long-term system planning that supports the growth of distributed generation
- Develop and mentor the managers and program leaders on the team
- Support system restoration and emergency operations as needed
