Take ownership of complete fire-sprinkler designs for commercial and industrial projects with an established mechanical and fire-protection contractor. This in-office role combines independent design work, technical coordination, field support, and guidance of less-experienced designers.

Senior Fire Sprinkler Designer Benefits and Compensation:

$75,000–$90,000 annual salary

Full-time, in-office position in Lincoln, Nebraska

Varied commercial and industrial project work

Senior Fire Sprinkler Designer Requirements & Qualifications

Must Haves

Current NICET Level II certification in Water-Based Systems Layout

Progressive fire-sprinkler design experience; 5+ years is ideal, with 3–4 years potentially acceptable when gained with one company

AutoSPRINK experience is important

Ability to independently complete full fire-sprinkler design projects

Commercial, industrial, institutional, or similarly complex project experience

Strong hydraulic-calculation and water-supply analysis skills

Working knowledge of NFPA standards and applicable AHJ requirements

Experience coordinating sprinkler designs with other building trades

Experience producing permit, installation, and fabrication-ready documents

Working proficiency with Bluebeam Revu

Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines

Key Design and Project Responsibilities

Review contracts, specifications, drawings, water-supply information, and project criteria before beginning system layout

Establish hazard classifications and design criteria, then complete system layouts and hydraulic calculations

Determine sprinkler spacing, pipe sizing, routing, elevations, hangers, and equipment interfaces

Prepare permit drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, material lists, and supporting documentation

Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing information

Identify scope gaps and design conflicts, prepare RFIs, and resolve comments before they create field problems

Support Project Managers and field personnel with answers, sketches, revisions, and record-document updates

Check drawings, calculations, material lists, and fabrication information before release

Review work completed by less-experienced designers and provide technical guidance when needed

Senior Fire Sprinkler Designer Preferred Background & Skills

Experience independently designing varied or technically complex systems

Industrial fire-protection project experience

Experience preparing projects for fabrication and field installation

Strong understanding of constructability and installation sequencing

Experience conducting QA/QC reviews

Experience reviewing or mentoring less-experienced designers

Field-verification or site-visit experience

Strong revision-control and document-management habits
