Operations Manager – Machine Shop
About the Role
The Operations Manager leads day‑to‑day production in a precision machining and repair environment. This role focuses on improving throughput, on‑time delivery, quality, and cost performance while building documented, repeatable processes across the shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Scheduling — Manage daily/weekly workflow and ensure jobs meet promise dates.
- Shop‑Floor Leadership — Drive a structured daily management rhythm to surface issues early and break bottlenecks.
- Quoting & Estimating — Estimate machining/repair work from prints and specs; deliver fast, accurate quotes.
- Quality Management — Reduce scrap/rework and lead corrective actions; uphold ISO/API or customer requirements.
- Safety & 5S — Maintain a safe, organized, compliant shop environment.
- Cost & Capacity Control — Manage labor/machine utilization and control operating costs.
- Team Leadership — Lead and develop machinists and supervisors; build cross‑training depth.
- Process Documentation — Create standard work, routings, and accurate ERP/MRP data.
Qualifications
- Operations Leadership in machining, metalworking, or precision manufacturing
- CNC machining knowledge (mills/lathes, setups, tolerances)
- Quoting experience from prints/specs
- ERP/MRP proficiency for scheduling and shop reporting
- Experience improving throughput, OTIF, lead time, and cost
- Background in quality systems, standard work, and shop safety
Preferred: rotating equipment, repair/remanufacturing, petrochemical/O&G customer requirements, Lean/5S, technical or manufacturing education.
