Assistant General Manager Responsibilities
- Lead daily front-of-house operations alongside the General Manager and oversee the restaurant in their absence.
- Own the dining room during service, ensuring smooth pacing, table management, and exceptional guest experiences.
- Lead engaging pre-shift meetings that prepare, educate, and motivate the team.
- Maintain the highest standards of hospitality by ensuring every guest interaction is warm, polished, and memorable.
- Partner closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen leadership to ensure seamless communication and flawless service execution.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop front-of-house team members, including captains, servers, hosts, and support staff.
- Reinforce service standards through ongoing coaching and performance development.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures, shift readiness, cleanliness, side work, and end-of-day reporting.
- Assist with scheduling, ordering, administrative tasks, and labor management as directed by the General Manager.
- Resolve guest concerns quickly and professionally while building relationships with regular and VIP guests.
- Support the implementation of training materials and service standards for all front-of-house positions.
Assistant General Manager Qualifications
- 3+ years of front-of-house leadership experience in fine dining or upscale hospitality.
- Proven ability to lead successful services and develop high-performing hospitality teams.
- Strong leadership presence with a hands-on management style.
- Excellent guest service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid wine knowledge; Sommelier certification (CMS, WSET, or equivalent) is a plus.
- Experience with reservation platforms such as SevenRooms, Resy, or similar.
- Experience with POS systems including Toast, Aloha, or equivalent.
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and solutions-focused in a high-volume environment.
- Previous opening or pre-opening restaurant experience is highly preferred.
