Concrete Estimator Benefits & Compensation

Concrete Estimator Requirements & Qualifications
Must-Haves
- 3–7+ years of concrete estimating experience
- Experience estimating tilt-up, structural concrete, flatwork, slabs, foundations, and site concrete
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
- Proficiency with construction estimating and takeoff software
- Experience developing detailed quantity takeoffs and complete bid packages
- Strong understanding of concrete construction methods, formwork systems, reinforcing steel, finishing operations, and equipment costs
- Experience soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while consistently meeting bid deadlines
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for commercial concrete projects including structural, tilt-up, flatwork, foundations, and architectural concrete
- Develop comprehensive estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and production costs
- Review plans and specifications to identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and project risks
- Coordinate pricing with ready-mix suppliers, reinforcing steel vendors, formwork suppliers, pump operators, and specialty subcontractors
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and constructability reviews
- Prepare detailed scope summaries and project handoff documentation for awarded work
- Support value engineering initiatives and assist ownership during negotiations
- Maintain historical cost databases, bid logs, vendor pricing, and estimating records
- Monitor market pricing trends to ensure competitive and accurate proposals
Concrete Estimator Preferred Background & Skills
Nice-to-Haves
- Direct experience estimating tilt-up concrete panel construction and erection sequencing
- Experience with architectural concrete finishes, curbs, retaining walls, stairs, and other site concrete scopes
- Knowledge of California prevailing wage and public works bidding
- Previous field experience with self-perform concrete operations
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience collaborating closely with project management teams during project turnover and budget development
