An established manufacturing organization is seeking an Automation Engineer, Equipment/Process to deliver and sustain automated manufacturing systems across the full equipment lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of equipment performance, process reliability, and production capability, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to implement scalable automation solutions that meet safety, quality, and throughput objectives.
Automation Engineer, Equipment/Process | What You Will Do
- Commission and validate PLC-controlled systems, robotics, vision inspection, and material handling equipment
- Lead equipment buy-off activities including FAT, SAT, and Run-at-Rate
- Define and validate equipment capability targets: Cp/Cpk, OEE, MTBF, MTTR
- Develop process windows and settings to ensure consistent output across shifts and production lots
- Implement poka-yoke, interlocks, and automated detection strategies to protect quality and safety
- Troubleshoot and optimize equipment during start-up, ramp, and high-volume production
- Partner with Maintenance to build PM programs, spare parts lists, and technical documentation
- Drive corrective actions for chronic equipment and process issues
- Manage automation suppliers and integrators on scope, deliverables, timelines, and performance
- Contribute to PFMEA, control plan development, and quality audits for automated processes
- Support continuous improvement efforts targeting yield, cycle time, scrap, and labor efficiency
Automation Engineer, Equipment/Process | What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechatronics, or related field)
- 5 or more years of industrial automation experience in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience commissioning industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa)
- PLC programming and troubleshooting proficiency in a live production environment
- Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence) and automated verification strategies
- Strong understanding of equipment reliability and process control metrics
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma problem-solving methods
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident required
