Director of Finance Requirements & Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive hotel or resort finance and accounting experience
- Minimum 2 years as Director of Finance within a hotel or resort environment
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, hospitality management, or related field required
- Strong hospitality accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls background
- Advanced proficiency with financial systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel; experience with Profitsword a plus
- Experience working within a decentralized accounting environment
- Proven ability to communicate financial concepts to both financial and non-financial leaders
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop teams
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
Director of Finance Preferred Background & Skills
- Master’s degree, CPA, or related advanced credential
- Hospitality-focused leadership with a passion for team and business development
- Strong partnership skills to support department leaders and ownership
- Resourceful, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach
- Enthusiastic teacher and mentor who enjoys developing people
Director of Finance Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and finance functions for the property
- Direct budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, audits, and compliance
- Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for improved profitability and efficiency
- Partner with department leaders to guide labor management and expense control
- Maintain strong internal controls and balance sheet integrity
- Oversee cash flow, payroll, and overall financial health
- Present results and recommendations to ownership and executive leadership
- Mentor and develop the accounting and finance team
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
